Description
  • Gorilla permit: Book this well in advance through Uganda Wildlife Authority (or your tour operator) currently around $800/permit for foreign non-residents, and they sell out fast in peak season (Jun–Sep, Dec–Feb). Without a confirmed permit the rest of the trip doesn't happen.
  • Flying vs. driving: With only 3 days, flying into Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip is worth the extra cost — it turns ~17 hours of round-trip driving into about 3 hours total in the air, leaving you a real day and a half on the ground.
  • Buhoma sector is the most established and accessible sector of Bwindi (vs. Ruhija, Rushaga, Nkuringo), which is why it's the backbone of this plan — good infrastructure, shorter trailhead access, and reliable lodge options at every price point.
  • Physical demands: trekking is genuinely tough — steep, muddy, humid terrain at altitude, anywhere from 2 to 7+ hours round trip. Decent fitness, broken-in waterproof boots, and a porter (a few dollars, hugely worth it) make a big difference.

  • Buffer day: if your dates allow, having a spare day in case of a delayed flight or weather is wise — Bwindi's remoteness makes you more exposed to those wrinkles than other parts of Uganda.
